Beijing has acknowledged that Meng is in detention "under the monitoring and investigation" of the new anti-corruption unit, the National Supervision Commission, for suspected serious violations of state law, The Guardian reported.
Meng's wife, who has remained in Lyon with their children according to police sources, was receiving protection, France's interior ministry said on October 6.
The French ministry said on Friday that Mr Meng's family had not heard from him since 25 September.
On Saturday, Interpol requested clarification from China's authorities on Meng's status as he had been missing since he left Lyon for China on September 29.
When Mr Meng was named Interpol's president, human rights groups expressed concern that Beijing might try to leverage his position to pursue dissidents overseas. Ms Meng said he sent her an image of a knife that day, which she thought was a warning that he was in danger.
According to Interpol's website, Meng has almost 40 years of experience in criminal justice and policing, and has overseen matters related to legal institutions, narcotics control and counterterrorism.
Asked if she believed that he has been arrested, Grace Meng said: "In China, what happened, I'm not sure".
