Foreign Minister Josep Borrell, a former president of the European Parliament, revealed that Trump told him that a border wall in the desert - like his long promised wall on the Mexican border - would work for Europe as well, The Express reported.
According to Borrell, Trump brushed off concerns about the plan's feasibility, claiming that "the Sahara border can't be bigger than our border with Mexico". This is around 1,000 miles longer than the US-Mexico border.
"You need to build a wall around the Sahara", Trump said, according to Borrell.
A report from the International Organization for Migration (IOM) shows that 77,555 migrants and refugees entered Europe by sea in 2018.
Spain has found itself at the forefront of Europe's migration crisis.
"They built this gorgeous wall where the plane went down in Pennsylvania, Shanksville", Trump told the reporters.
Spanish diplomats, however, pointed out that the Sahara Desert stretched for 3,000 miles.

A ministry spokesman tells the Guardian: "We can confirm that's what the minister said, but we won't be making any further comment on the minister's remarks".
The enclaves, which lie on the Mediterranean coast, have always been popular transit points for sub-Saharan African migrants.
