The Patriots acquired wide receiver Josh Gordon from the Browns in exchange for a late-round draft choice Monday.
The trade ends what has been a troubled time in Cleveland for Gordon, a second-round supplemental draft pick of the Browns in 2012.
In order to make room for Gordon on the roster, the Patriots are cutting former Browns wide receiver Corey Coleman, who signed with New England last week. Even with Edelman, the Patriots wide receiver corps was perilously thin. In a deal first reported by NFL.com's Ian Rapoport, the Patriots will send a conditional fifth-round pick to the Browns in exchange for Gordon. New England didn't quite win the Super Bowl that season, but given that it went undefeated before that game, it was a pretty darn good bet to do so.
The Browns have been supportive of Gordon, but the team felt betrayed and decided it was time to cut ties. "I always feel, since camp ended and we got our 53, we can win with the people we have".

Emery On Ozil: "He Can Improve. He Can Do More"
There may be a new man in charge of the team and a host of new players but the major talking point at Arsenal is still Mesut Ozil .
The Patriots will pay Gordon the remaining $697,058 on his 2018 contract.
"I hate to determine it a relief", Jackson said. "We see what he does when he's on the field, so I guess I'll leave it at that for now".
When asked about Gordon's seven-catch, 151-yard performance against New England back in 2013, safety Duron Harmon recalled the wideout's dominance, simply stating, "Yeah, he had a lot of yards". Gordon had not been on the injury report all week. He has recorded 127 receptions for 1,755 yards and 10 touchdowns. He was then suspended, again, for the entire 2015 and 2016 seasons. I'm glad that we're not in a space where we're thinking about those things: "What could be, what could not be, and that we're coaching the guys that are here".
Gordon sat out the first 11 games previous year before returning for Cleveland's final five games.
