Donald Trump on Sunday mounted another extraordinary attack on his attorney general, Jeff Sessions, blaming him for charges against two congressmen he said jeopardised Republican chances in the forthcoming midterm elections.
"Two easy wins now in doubt because there is not enough time", he complained, noting that Democrats must "love" Sessions as the attorney general.
Hunter and his wife, Margaret, were indicted last month on charges of illegally converting $250,000 in campaign funds for personal expenses and filing false records, while Collins was indicted earlier in August on insider-trading charges.
"Good job Jeff." the tweet said, in part, also noting that the charges came just ahead of the mid-term elections.

The congressmen he referred to in two combative tweets were Reps. Calling the agency the "Jeff Sessions Justice Department" is the president's ultimate insult, Trump advisers say. The comment on Monday was the latest indication that Trump, who ran on a pledge to "drain the swamp", believes his political allies should be immune from prosecution, regardless of the evidence stacked against them.

The tension between Trump and Sessions boiled over recently with Sessions punching back, saying that he and his department "will not be improperly influenced by political considerations". Trump has also repeatedly complained publicly and privately over Sessions' decision to recuse himself from the federal investigation into possible collusion between the Trump campaign and Russian Federation because he'd worked on Trump's campaign. Trump would probably argue that he's saying no indictments should be handed down this close to an election, regardless of party.
