Tesla short sellers received a sizable payday hours after The New York Times published an eye-opening interview with an emotional Elon Musk, the electric-car company's chief executive. During his interview with the New York Times he alternated between tears and laughter and admitted he has to take Ambien to sleep sometimes.
In a New York Times interview Thursday, Musk said, "This past year has been the most hard and painful year of my career". In it, Musk lamented the many personal and professional challenges he has faced in the past year.

Tesla produced 5,031 Model 3 electric cars in the last seven days of the second quarter, the company said in early July, meeting its long-elusive production target after several hiccups.
Some board members are angry about the move, weighing whether to add a second-in-command at Tesla to take the pressure off Musk over concerns about his workload and use of Ambien, the Times reported. But he told the newspaper he wrote the tweet inside a Tesla Model S while he was driving to the airport, and that no-one else reviewed it. Experts say regulators likely are investigating if Musk was truthful in the tweet about having the financing set for the deal. Weed is not helpful for productivity. So far, these damaging allegations have resulted in Tesla being subpoenaed by government regulators and hit with two class-action lawsuits from investors who contend that the tweets violated federal securities laws.
The last time he took as many as seven days off from work was in 2001, he told the Times, when he fell ill with malaria.

The interview offered rare insights into Musk's personal life and thinking. They can have the job.
