On Monday, he tried to clean it up.
President Donald Trump's lawyer Rudy Giuliani on Monday sought to clarify his head-scratching assertion over the weekend that "truth isn't truth", writing in a morning tweet that he was referring to instances where two people make contradictory statements.
"Truth is truth", Todd interjected.
When Todd called him out on the gaffe, Giuliani protested, "Don't do this to me".
"I guess Jared is a fine man, you know that", Giuliani said.
"Donald Trump says I didn't talk about [former national security adviser Michael] Flynn with [then-FBI Director James] Comey".
This was too much for Todd, who cradled his forehead in his hands over what he just heard and once again interrupted Giuliani's spiel.

In May, Giuliani told the Washington Post that Mueller and his team "may have a different version of the truth than we do". Keeping in mind that the job of the president's lawyer is to try to dismiss potentially damaging evidence such as the infamous Trump Tower meeting, Giuliani did the exact opposite. Preet Bharara, a Democrat who was sacked as federal prosecutor by the Trump administration, suggested "truth isn't truth" would not sound convincing in a trial.
During an interview with Chuck Todd on NBC's "Meet The Press", Giuliani acknowledged that the reason for the June 2016 Trump Tower meeting between Trump campaign aides and a Russian lawyer, arranged by Trump's son Donald Trump Jr., was that they had been promised dirt on Trump's 2016 Democratic rival, Hillary Clinton. "Mr. Mayor, do you realize, what ..."
Mr Giuliani was explaining his concerns over pushing Mr Trump into an interview that he says could be a perjury trap.
Trump, in a series of angry tweets, blasted a New York Times story reporting that McGahn has been cooperating extensively with the special counsel team investigating Russian election meddling and potential collusion with Trump's Republican campaign.
"They're down to desperation time", Giuliani said of the Mueller team. Todd is a political hack and McCarthy is a former federal prosecutor who knows what he is talking about.
Trump has consistently denied Russian Federation colluded with his campaign team during the 2016 USA presidential election.
In the interview, Mr Giuliani characterised the Russian Federation inquiry as "wild, crazy, unorthodox".
