The complainant declined to comment to the Times. The email correspondence included a photo of Argento and her accuser taken on the date in question, and the New York Times reportedly spoke to three sources familiar with the situation who verified the authenticity of the documents.
The Times says that Argento, 42, settled the notice of intent to sue by Jimmy Bennett, who is now 22, for $380,000 shortly after she said last October that movie mogul Harvey Weinstein raped her. According to the Times, the alleged incident affected Bennett's mental health and hurt his acting career.
Argento's counsel who handled the settlement, Carrie Goldberg, described the money as "helping Mr Bennett" in the documents. It's claimed that she then plied him with alcohol and gave him lover letters; afterwards she kissed him and pushed him onto the bed and performed oral sex on him, before having sexual intercourse. Argento asked to be alone with Bennett and the family member left. "We are not going to allow you to get away with it".
The Heart is Deceitful Above All Things was directed by Argento and based on the novel by JT LeRoy.
One was written to Asia where it detailed the finalizing of the settlement.

Argento told the magazine that she continued to have a relationship with Weinstein because she was afraid of angering him.
Bennett's lawyer informed Argento in November a year ago that the actor would be suing her for $3.5 million (€3.07 million) for "intentional infliction of emotional distress, lost wages, assault, and battery", said the documents obtained by the NYT via encrypted email.
Shortly after those revelations broke in October previous year, in November, Bennett's lawyers sent a notice of intent to sue to Richard Hofstetter, lawyer for the late Anthony Bourdain, who was also representing Argento at the time.
During Cannes Film Festival's closing ceremony this year, Argento had accused Weinstein of raping her when she was only 21-years-old.
