Pruitt resigned from the EPA on Thursday, citing "unprecedented" and "unrelenting" attacks on him and his family.

Wheeler is no stranger to the EPA.
His job had been in jeopardy since it emerged he had leased a property previous year that was co-owned by the wife of a veteran fossil fuels lobbyist, whose firm had sought regulatory rollbacks from the EPA.
"His extensive experience has benefited our clients and we wish him well as he returns to government", said Dave Zook, FaegreBD Consulting chair and leader of the firm's Washington, D.C. office, in a statement after Wheeler left for the EPA in April.
"It has become increasingly challenging for the EPA to carry out its mission with the administrator under investigation", said Barrasso, who is from Wyoming.
