Apple's 3D Touch was added to its iPhones but not iPads, suggesting the company has been moving tentatively with the tech, rather than committing completely.
The second Apple earnings report of 2018 is set to come out on May 1 and Wall Street's top analysts are anxious that disappointing news is on the horizon. The iPhone X had a bright, edge-to-edge display and 3D facial recognition, but the $999 (U.S.) starting price was too much for some consumers. Let us know in the comments.
Apple may be forced to abandon its 3D Touch technology in an effort to cut iPhone costs.
The prices of the 2018 models are likely to be placed along the lines of the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus, which were priced at £699/$699 and £799/$799 respectively. The information mentions that the company could use the Cover Glass Sensor technology for all of its iPhone releases next year. To maintain hefty profit margins, the use of LCD panels and aluminum housings are likely instead of the more expensive OLED panels and stainless steel. This makes the 3D Touch unit of the current-generation iPhones (save for the iPhone SE, of course) incompatible with the incoming model. As a result 3D Touch has never reached its potential - and now it looks like it never will.

So what will Apple replace 3D Touch with? However, Apple may already be addressing this problem, with rumors claiming that one of three upcoming iPhone models this year is a cheaper iPhone X successor. The most obvious speculation is the iPhone X Plus, which could be the larger counterpart of the iPhone X released in 2017. This new display will cost a little more, so the analyst believes that the company will remove the feature to reduce costs.
According to Ming-Chi Kuo, Apple might be looking to stabilize the price of the Apple iPhone by removing some of the features from the device.
Interestingly, the images also show the handset with a headphone jack, which Apple controversially made a decision to ditch on the iPhone 7 and more recently with the iPhone 8 and iPhone X.
