A hearing was held on Tuesday for former "Smallville" actress Allison Mack, arrested last week on charges of sex trafficking, during which she was released under home detention on $5 million bail. Mack allegedly helps Raniere recruit for DOS, the supposed secret inner circle of NXIVM, which has been accused of branding, starving, and beating members, especially when they don't recruit "slaves" for their organization. But authorities allege it is a pyramid-scheme cult that recruits young women to be sex slaves.
Mack starred in The CW network's "Smallville", a show about the early life of Superman that ended in 2011.
In March, Raniere was arrested outside Puerto Vallarta by Mexican federal police.
Mack pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Mack repeatedly reached out to "Harry Potter" star Emma Watson in 2016, asking her chat about joining a "women's movement". She'll be living with her parents at their home in Los Alamitos as she awaits trial, the AP reported.
A three-count indictment accuses her of running a sadistic sex cult called NXIVM with an upstate NY man, Keith Raniere, for which she recruited female members.

There's speculation Mack and her lawyers might have also cut a deal with prosecutors to inform on Raniere.
Under the conditions of her release, Mack will be under house arrest and will need to apply with pretrial services before she travels to her lawyer's offices in Manhattan and for future court appearances in the US District Court for the Eastern District of NY in Brooklyn.
'Allison Mack appeared this afternoon in Brooklyn Federal Court before United States Magistrate Judge Viktor Pohorelsky, ' a spokesperson for the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Eastern District of NY told E!
"The victims were then exploited", added U.S. Attorney Richard Donoghue, "both sexually and for their labour, to the defendants' benefit".
Prosecutors said Raniere manipulated women into "master-slave" sexual relationships and forced them to follow strict diets and respond to him when summoned. During the branding ceremonies, slaves were required to be fully naked, and a master would order one slave to film the branding while the others restrained the slave being branded. She faces a minimum sentence of 15 years in prison if convicted on all of her charges.
