ESPN's new direct-to-consumer offering, ESPN+, is due to launch in the USA on April 12, priced at US$4.99 per-month.
"ESPN was built on a belief in innovation and the powerful connection between sports and a remarkable array of fans".
Once you subscribe to ESPN+ on April 12, you'll have access to the vast majority of ESPN's broadcast content, including access to live coverage of games and events from MLB, NHL, MLS, college sports, boxing, PGA golf and tennis plus ESPN originals and on-demand content. (If you do that, though, you'll be able to authenticate and watch the traditional networks within the app.) Through the new ESPN app, subscribers can purchase the MLB.TV, NHL.TV and MLS Direct Kick packages to add to their experience, similar to how Channels work within Amazon Prime. And for those with no interest in sports but who are invested in Disney's upcoming streaming service, ESPN+ will be an important technological test case. Expect more details on the app before next week's ESPN+ launch. This won't be a huge concern for niche sports fans but for the average viewer that's mostly into mainstream sports, the subscription service likely won't be of much interest. It amounts to more than 180 baseball and hockey games each.
NHL - MORE THAN 180 GAMES; GAME OF THE DAY THROUGHOUT REGULAR SEASON: Beginning with the 2018-19 NHL season, subscribers will get a daily game throughout the regular season (in keeping with the league schedule); blackouts apply.

And, as baseball's Minnesota Twins get ready to kick off their (probably snowy and cold) season opener, a new way to keep up with all of your favorite sports happenings, both here in Minnesota and across all leagues in the country, gets ready to launch as well.
While this does sound as though you'll now have to pay to access the content you were probably watching on ESPN3 with a cable login that you already pay for, the service does appear to be offering an expanded slate of exclusive programming.
In addition to offering nearly 200 games, ESPN is throwing in some extra goodies. Add on access to the National Hockey League games is debuting with the 2018 season.
ESPN+ will be integrated into the ESPN main app, which, according to a release will be "completely redesigned and reimagined".
