France on Thursday accused Iran of supplying weapons to Houthi rebels waging a three-year fight against a Saudi-led coalition in Yemen. "There is a problem in Yemen: it is that the political process has not begun, that Saudi Arabia feels regularly attacked by the Houthis, who are themselves supplied with arms by Iran", French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian told RTL radio.
The Minister of State, Cabinet's member and Acting Minister of Culture and Information, Dr. Essam bin Saad bin Saeed, said in a statement to Saudi Press Agency (SPA) following the session that the Cabinet praised US President Donald Trump's appreciation to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, upon his meeting with Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz, Vice President of the Council of Ministers, and Minister of Defense during his current official visit to the US.
Iran has repeatedly denied giving missiles to the Houthis.
"We question why Iran is spending significant revenue in a country with which it has no real historical ties or interests, rather than using its influence to end the conflict for the good of the Yemeni people".
Qassemi also rejected the claims on the provision of Yemenis with missiles and said, "By leveling baseless and imaginary accusations without evidence against others, the Saudis are trying to cover up their inability and consecutive defeats they have suffered ... in the war against Yemeni people despite possessing ... a collection of advanced weapons and multi-billion-dollar arms purchases".
Saudi Arabia and its allies launched the war on Yemen in March 2015.
