Skywatchers will get a rare sight January 31, when the sky will display the moon in three unusual ways - a supermoon, a blue moon and a total lunar eclipse. This moon is referred to as a "blue moon" as it is the second full moon in the same calendar month. The first happened on December 3, 2017, NASA said in a report. Next Wednesday, January 31st will bring us another super moon. The lunar cycle - the time from one new moon to the next - is on average 29.53 days. This full moon will also be a "Super Moon" or a full moon that occurs when the moon is relatively close to Earth in its orbit.
The last time a lunar eclipse coincided with a blue moon at its perigee in North America was in 1866, when Andrew Johnson was US president and Jesse James started robbing banks and trains.
"In the dark, many familiar craters and other features can't be seen, and the normally non-descript areas around some craters start to "glow", because the rocks there are still warm", Hayne added.
But the further west you are the better the view, meaning New Jersey isn't the best place to get a glimpse of this rare, larger reddish full moon. Astronomers will tell you however that this one's not a ideal supermoon, as it would have crossed its closest point to the Earth a day before it reaches peak fullness and the eclipse begins.

Common Cause could then sue the FEC, at which point the agency would have to demonstrate why it had chosen not to investigate. The payment could be troublesome for Trump if Cohen was working on behalf of the campaign and did not disclose it.

There are two types of Blue Moon: first is Seasonal Blue Moon, it is known as the Fourth Full Moon in an astronomical season as opposed to the usual three Full Moons.
The second full moon of the month is known as a Blue Moon. Astronomers call this phenomenon as "Blue Moon". Hunter's Moon The Hunter's Moon is the full moon following the Harvest Moon; which means that it is usually in October, except for when the Harvest Moon occurs in October - then, the Hunter's Moon happens in November. Typically, a Blue Moon will appear once every three years or so. "So, what happens is the moon passes into earth's shadow", said Klassen, a physics and astronomy professor and chair of the Department of Physics and Astronomy, at Rowan.
Johnston adds that the country's Eastern time zone will have the most trouble seeing the eclipse on January 31, which begins at 5:51 a.m. ET.
By that time, however, the moon will already have set in the eastern time zone.
