Clashes have broken out between hundreds of protesters and Lebanese security forces outside the U.S. Embassy in Beirut on Sunday during a demonstration against U.S. President Donald Trump's decision to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.
Trump's move Wednesday to recognise Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and commit to moving the USA embassy to the holy city has prompted global condemnation and sparked protests worldwide, from Indonesia and Malaysia to Iraq, Jordan, Turkey and Egypt.
The police detained some demonstrators but it was not clear how many.
President Trump's decision has led to fresh Israeli strikes on Gaza, the deaths of Palestinian protesters, and the attempted storming of the U.S. Embassy in Lebanon. It also triggered denunciations from around the world, even from close allies like France, that suggested he had needlessly stirred more conflict in an already volatile region.
