Frost, one of the hottest offensive minds in all the land, has accepted a deal with Nebraska worth a reported seven years, $35 million.
Even before Nebraska fired coach Mike Riley, there was a near universal feeling that the program would pursue Frost, who led UCF to a 12-0 regular season. In 2015, the season before Frost took over, UCF finished with a record of 0-12.
In an image burnished in the collective memory of Nebraska fans, Frost took the microphone on the field moments after a 42-17 win over Tennessee in the Orange Bowl and delivered a speech imploring voters in the coaches' poll to send Osborne into retirement with a share of the national championship.
A finalist for the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award as a senior who became just the 10th player in college football history to rush and pass for more than 1,000 yards in a season, Frost was drafted by the New Jets with the 67th overall pick in the third round of the 1998 NFL Draft.
"It is a great honor and privilege to have the opportunity to return to Nebraska and to lead the Husker football program", Frost said.
After playing for legendary coaches Bill Walsh, Tom Osborne, Bill Parcells, Bill Belichick and Tom Gruden during his collegiate and National Football League career, Frost served as a graduate assistant at his alma mater Nebraska under Frank Solich in 2002.
"I am appreciative of the confidence (athletic director) Bill Moos and our University leadership have in me to lead this program". Nebraska finished 4-8 this season, the team's worst record in nearly 60 years.
Scott Frost is going home. Next year's schedule includes games against traditional conference powerhouses Ohio State, Michigan, Michigan State and Wisconsin.
