The magnitude-7.0 quake occurred at 9:43 a.m. local time, at a depth of 10 kilometers, roughly 82 km east-northeast of Tadine, on the southern Pacific island nation's Mare Island, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The quake struck the Loyalty Islands on Monday about 11.45am (NZT) at a depth of about 25km.
