Road trips will cost more, however.
The group said Thanksgiving travel has increased for nine consecutive years - and this year will see a 3 percent rise over 2016.
AAA says it would be the eighth consecutive year of growth for Thanksgiving travel in MI.
Air travel is expected to see the biggest year-over-year increase, at 5 per cent, with about 4 million travellers expected to pass through United States airports over the holiday period.
A robust USA economy is driving across-the-board travel this season, according to the 115-year-old automobile association.
