On a day when the GST Council announced a "historic" change in the structure of the Goods and Services Tax (GST) that was implemented in July, Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi on Friday reiterated his criticisms on the BJP, saying that they will not allow the BJP to impose a "Gabbar Singh Tax" on India.
"If we have to take on today's BJP like the way Rahul Gandhi has declared a war in his new avatar, we need youngsters with the spirit of a warrior and who can give a war cry in all states, all cities and all towns", Chidambaram said.
"Persistent pressure built by the Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi and the Congress party forced the GST Council and the BJP Government to reduce taxes on items of daily usage being taxed under the 28 per cent bracket".
The Congress, which has been demanding to constitutionally cap the Goods and Services Tax (GST) at a maximum of 18 per cent, said the Modi government was resorting to high taxation on petroleum products.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi had attended silver jubilee festivities at the temple on November 2. Chidambaram said in a tweet. "If the BJP will not do this, Congress will do it", Gandhi said.

"When GST rate is capped at 18%, this government would have learnt its lesson belatedly", Chidambaram said in a series of Tweets posted late Friday night and Saturday morning.
"But people of India, particularly shopkeepers, traders, MSMEs, are distressed with the lopsided architecture, design and implementation mechanism of Modi ji's "Gabbar Singh Tax", he added.
He further said that the Congress government gave Rs 35,000 Crore for MGNREGA, but Modiji (when he was Gujarat CM) gave Rs 35,000 Crore for Tata Nano project.
"The GST Council was formed, and all state Finance Ministers are a part of it".
"They saw it happening in Surat the other day when Rahul Gandhi made a decision to visit a textile market and was greeted by slogans of "Modi, Modi, Modi", he said.
